Hi, I’m Brian. I've lived in New Bedford since I was seven and have fallen in love with this city as an adult - the history, the diversity, the art, and the people. I struggled in school but one thing I’ve always been good at is art. I never knew art would be something so prominent in my future. I ended up dropping out of school, going to work, and doing art on the side. For a while it was my escape from my strong Puerto Rican religious upbringing which made me feel like I was always wrong and different. Thanks to my family of friends, I was able to truly accept who I am as a gay man and aspiring artist. Pride for me is a reminder of the prison I left behind, a celebration of the amazing queer people and allies I've meet through the years and those who paved the way.
The painted pieces are all acrylic paint. The arowana fishes are on pen and acrylic on kraft paper. If anyone is interested in any pieces they can reach me on my Instagram @Briianmolina. Or you can purchase originals and prints at tl6 the gallery in downtown New Bedford. |
