Glisten, formerly known as GLSEN (Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network), is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring that LGBTQ+ students can learn in safe, affirming, and inclusive school environments.
Founded in 1990, Glisten works at the intersection of education, research, policy, and student leadership. Its mission centers on creating school climates where students are protected from harassment, represented in curriculum, and supported by equitable policies that address systemic barriers.
At its core, Glisten stands for safety, representation, and equity.
Safety means protecting students from bullying, harassment, and discrimination.
